EFCSN and AFP announce partnership

The European Fact-Checking Standards Network (EFCSN) and Agence France-Presse (AFP) have entered into a partnership that will give European fact-checkers access to AFP content for publication.

Through the partnership, AFP, as a co-founder and verified member of the EFCSN, provides other EFCSN members access to the AFP News platform at preferred conditions.

The platform is a collection of all news reports, photos, videos and graphics by AFP, updated 24/7 with the power of 1,700 AFP journalists in 151 countries behind it. With valuable features for fact-checkers working to quickly source and corroborate high-quality verified information and multimedia, AFP News is a useful tool for the fact-checker’s arsenal.

This is especially true for smaller and nonprofit fact-checking organisations, which is what motivated the partnership. By streamlining their access to high quality content, especially visuals which may be more expensive to produce or difficult to verify, fact-checkers can be more efficient with their work and optimise their resources.

EFCSN Coordinator Stephan Mündges said, “We are pleased to facilitate our members with access to the verified information and visual content available in the AFP News Platform. This partnership will help fact-checkers across Europe to debunk claims faster and illustrate their fact-checks more easily”.

Christine Buhagiar, Europe Director for AFP, said “As the world leader in digital investigation with more than 150 journalists worldwide and publishing in 26 languages, AFP is thrilled to enhance its cooperation with the world of European fact checkers, by helping them to deliver comprehensive and well-illustrated stories”.
