The European Fact-Checking Standards Network (EFCSN) has opened a call for climate researchers to join a database of experts to facilitate collaboration with fact-checkers as part of its EuroClimateCheck (FactCRICIS) project.
EuroClimateCheck is an ambitious initiative to strengthen Europe’s ability to combat climate misinformation. By empowering fact-checkers and promoting collaboration with climate experts, the database ensures accurate, science-based information is available to counter false narratives that undermine climate action.
Misinformation about climate change continues to evolve and spread across borders, languages, and platforms, often delaying effective climate action. Fact-checkers frequently encounter challenges in accessing verified, specialized knowledge to address these false claims. The EuroClimateCheck Experts Database bridges this gap by creating a reliable, centralized resource of climate expertise for fact-checkers across Europe.
Goals of the Experts Database
- Empower Fact-Checkers: Provide fact-checking organizations with quick, secure access to verified experts, enhancing their ability to debunk complex climate narratives.
- Foster Collaboration: Build a network of experts and fact-checkers, enabling cross-border cooperation to tackle misinformation effectively.
- Promote Public Trust: Ensure fact-based climate information is accessible, improving public understanding and fostering informed decision-making.
Why an Experts Database?
Misinformation about climate change continues to evolve and spread across borders, languages, and platforms, often delaying effective climate action. Fact-checkers frequently encounter challenges accessing verified, specialized knowledge to address these false claims. The EuroClimateCheck Experts Database bridges this gap by creating a reliable, centralized resource of climate expertise for fact-checkers across Europe.
Why Join?
Climate misinformation is widespread across Europe, yet there is also interest in the European public to access science-backed, timely climate information, which was brought to the forefront as part of the EFCSN’s previous climate-related project, Climate Facts Europe.
By joining the experts database, you become a trusted resource for fact-checkers on the frontline against climate misinformation. When fact-checkers detect and set out to debunk false claims related to your expertise, the database facilitates their finding and connecting with you.
Together, we can beat back the tide of climate misinformation and you can contribute to a more facts-based information space in which the European public has easier access to better information about climate change and related issues.
When you work with a fact-checker, you will also be given credit for your contribution to their work in the resulting article if you choose to act as a named source.
Who Can Join?
We seek climate scientists, researchers, and subject-matter experts with knowledge in environmental science, climate policy, and green technologies. Fluency in multiple languages is an asset, helping us address misinformation across Europe’s diverse linguistic landscape.
How to Join
Interested experts can submit their profiles, including areas of expertise, affiliations, and language capabilities, via the project website. By providing more information about your background, we can better match your expertise with relevant queries from fact-checkers. Together, we can strengthen fact-checking efforts and build a more informed public discourse.
