22 Oct 2025 – Reliable information doesn’t come free. It takes resources to create. That is why over 100 organizations, the EFCSN and many of its members among them, have signed the letter “Invest in Free Media: Europe’s Democratic Foundation”, calling for long-term and consistent investment in free and independent media by the EU.
Free, independent media and professional fact-checking are the cornerstones of democracy, support a robust economy, and build resilience against hybrid threats. Supporting this work is to safeguard the European information space and enable the continent’s competitiveness and leadership.
In the letter, together we outline several ways the EU can ensure this type of work receives the sustained investment it needs in the next Multiannual Financial Framework (2028 – 2034). Read the full letter:
