Climate Facts Europe: Member Reports
A FERTILE GROUND FOR DISINFORMATION
This report from EFCSN members Newtral and Science Feedback describes how farmers’ protests across Europe in 2024 were weaponized by a wide array of actors to spread climate misinformation and narratives undermining climate action. The analysis found that anti-EU climate action narratives attracted three times more interactions than broader critiques of climate action, with 81.6% of those posts published by far-right politicians.
FROM EXTREME WEATHER TO CLIMATE DENIAL
This report, produced by EFCSN members Maldita.es, Facta.news and Ellinika Hoaxes, explores the alarming trend of conspiracy theories that deny climate change by misrepresenting extreme weather events in Italy, Spain, and Greece. By examining the disinformation surrounding recent droughts and floods, the report reveals how these false narratives undermine public understanding and hinder climate action.
CLIMATE CONSPIRACIES IN THE WESTERN BALKANS
This report by the Metamorphosis Foundation examines how climate conspiracy theories circulating in the Western Balkans are largely imported from abroad and amplified by local networks of fake and anonymous accounts. Covering North Macedonia, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Albania, Montenegro and Kosovo, it identifies the three most prevalent climate conspiracy narratives in the region and traces their origins.
YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT
This report from Delfi Melo Detektorius explores how disinformation spreaders exploit food-related fears to manipulate Europeans. Against the backdrop of pandemic disruptions, climate change, and the war in Ukraine, the report examines how false narratives around food security in Lithuania and across Europe are constructed and what they are designed to achieve.
