The members of the European Fact-Checking Standards Network (EFCSN) have elected a new Governance Body, which began its tenure on 28 October 2024 and will last for three years. The 11 Governance Body members are the democratically elected representatives of Europe’s fact-checking community and collaboratively lead the EFCSN. The new Governance Body consists of seven members of the previous Governance Body who are continuing their tenure, as well as four new members. All members of the EFCSN Governance Body are senior staff at EFCSN member fact-checking organisations across Europe.
Clara Jiménez Cruz, CEO and co-founder of the Spanish fact-checking organisation Maldita.es, one of the founding members of the EFCSN, has been re-elected to the role of Chair of the Governance Body. Vincent Couronne, founder of the French legal fact-checking outlet Les Surligneurs—another of the EFCSN’s founding members—has been reelected as Treasurer.
Other Governance Body representatives elected include Ana Brakus of Faktograf (Croatia), Bardhyl Jashari of Metamorphosis Foundation (North Macedonia), Chris Morris of Full Fact (United Kingdom), Felipe Pardal of Polígrafo (Portugal), Kristina Hristova of Factcheck.bg / AEJ-Bulgaria (Bulgaria), Marie Bohner of AFP (France), Stefan Voss of dpa (Germany), Thomas Hedin of TjekDet (Denmark) and Tommaso Canetta of Pagella Politica and Facta.news (Italy). The full biographies of each of the members of the Governance Body are available on the EFCSN’s website.
Voting for the new Governance Body took place during October. All verified members of the EFCSN were able to cast votes among candidates for the Governance Body. The positions of Chair and Treasurer were selected by the new Governance Body on 28 October 2024.
The Governance Body is responsible for guiding organisational priorities and ensuring the EFCSN fulfils its mission. They also make the final decision regarding applications to the EFCSN following the evaluation criteria set forth in the EFCSN’s Code of Standards.
